TERMS OF CORONAVIRUS

It’s difficult to keep up with the outbreak’s constantly changing coverage, and obscure medical and public health words and phrases don’t help matters. However, in order to limit the spread of the disease caused by the latest coronavirus, we must all keep up with innovations and advice (COVID-19). This glossary of widely used words will assist you in deciphering what may be confusing scientific content.

Asymptomatic: Asymptomatic refers to a person who shows no signs or symptoms of a disease.

Carrier: An individual or animal that can spread disease to another person, whether or not they are sick with it. It is possible to be asymptomatic while still carrying the disease and spreading it to others.

Community spread: Community spread refers to the spread of a disease within a community rather than from an outside source.

Contagious: A person who is infected with a disease and may spread it to others by direct contact. (See also infectious.)

Epidemic: The sudden and unforeseen spread of a disease within an area is referred to as an outbreak.

Fatality rate: The number of people who suffer as a result of a disease. COVID-19 has a fatality rate of between 1% and 3%, according to estimates. According to data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the influenza fatality rate in the United States this year is about 0.6 percent.

Incubation period: The interval between a person’s first exposure and the start of symptoms is known as the incubation period.

Isolation:  Keeping infected and uninfected people apart to prevent infection spread, such as in hospitals where ill patients are kept in specified areas apart from other patients.

N 95 respirator: FDA-approved safe disposable mask that filters out 95% of airborne particles is known as a N 95 respirator.

Novel (new) coronavirus A previously unknown form of coronavirus is recognised as a novel new (new) coronavirus. SARS-CoV-2 is an abbreviation for Severe Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, a novel coronavirus that is now circulating worldwide.

Pandemic: A pandemic is the worldwide spread of a new illness that affects a large number of people. The ongoing epidemic has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

PCR test: A screening test for virus particles in blood or other bodily fluids is the PCR test. The letters PCR stand for polymerase chain reaction, which is a technique for detecting the virus’s DNA.

Quarantine: Quarantine is the practise of separating or limiting the movement of people who appear to be healthy but have been exposed to an infectious disease.

Screening: Screening entails determining whether or not an individual is contaminated. This may involve checking for a temperature of 99 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, as well as a cough or other respiratory symptoms.
