How to use a face mask
We know Covid-19 is a droplet disease transmitted by an infected carrier through the air while coughing, sneezing and talking, etc. and it’s difficult to guess from where you could catch one. In a desperate time as such face mask proves to be a real savior. This might seem a little ridiculous at first glance but yes… there is more to how one should wear a face mask. An actual way, not just a method but must be considered as a virus protection ritual.
Of many different types, a disposable 3ply surgical mask is most commonly used as it is extremely cost-efficient and user friendly. Most surgical face mask manufacturers claim to provide the best quality and original melt blown filter. Here is a detailed guide on how to test and use a facemask.
# While buying a face mask make sure its packaging is well intact and has no cuts, holes or other damage of any kind. A loose mask can itself be contaminated and may increase the risk of infection.
# Before unpacking always wash your hands with soap for at least 2 minutes and use sanitizer if possible. When unpacking, make sure you don’t touch the outer side which is fluid repellent. Doing so may reduce its ability to resist water drops.
# Always hold your mask by its ties or ear loops before wearing and even while discarding.
# Any mask must be changed after 24 hours as the dust particles, bacteria and moisture saturate in it. If in case the mask feels damp before 24 hours, it must be discarded replaced with a fresh one.
How to test the efficiency of a face mask?
It is essential for a mask to go through the bacterial filtration test (BFE) and particle filtration test (PFE) at a Government recognized testing authority such as SITRA, CE, DRDO, ISI, etc. in order to be deemed fit for use. But due to a sudden spike in demand thousands of face mask manufacturers came up with cheap quality non-woven or cloth masks and hence, became mandatory to test your mask yourself.
# Place a lit candle at roughly 15 cm away. Blow the candle strongly wearing a mask. A mask with an original melt-blown filter should easily be able to resist the air and prevent the candle from blowing out. Thus, one can make sure they are using the right mask and are
well-protected.
